Chances for the outgoing ruling Democratic Progressive Party(DPP)
and United Democratic Front(UDF) going to the polls together are shrinking
every passing hour, The Eagles Eye has established.
This follows a revelation by highly placed source in DPP
that Mutharika and the party will never trust a stranger that does not have
Lhomwe traits for running mate position.
The source very close to the DPP/UDF alliance talks was
reacting to our story that UDF has set conditions for Mutharika to follow or
else forget UDF vote.
UDF says it will not support the DPP/UDF political marriage
unless Autupele Muluzi taken as either running mate.
In his reaction to the published social media reports our
source said “Mutharika or I should say DPP is not taking an outsider let alone
a non Lhomwe for the position of running mate.”
He argued taking Atupele as running mate is as good as selling
the party to UDF for a song, “Memories’ are still fresh how DPP has paid a
hefty price for bringing in intruders into the party therefore there is no way APM can
take Autuple for running mate position,” he emphasized.
According to our executive search we can confidently reveal
that Mutharika has settled for Justice Minister Samuel Tembenu for running
mate.
The decision has been arrived at following reports that
Tembenu’s roots traces back to the Lhomwe belt but his parents settled in
Salima.
However, a simple survey is enough to tell you that Temebenu
will not win the Salima Central parliamentary seat he is vying for on DPP
ticket.
In 2014 he lost the same to then Malawi Congress Party
(MCP)’s Felix Jumbe.
This means Local government minister Kondwani Nankhumwa’s
hopes for the hot seat have been shattered.
Nankhumwas has been positioning himself for the running mate
position.
However, his home district of Mulanje proximity to Thyolo
District where Mutharika hails from has betrayed him.
This means UDF has three options
1. Go by the December 30,
2018 Chikokobay deal where Atupele will
be appointed second vice presidency .
2 He should go solo
3.Go by the first
option and let his party collect nomination papers and identify a candidate.
